Jasper C. Edwards Jr., Senior Pastor

Jasper C. Edwards Jr. was installed as pastor of Rose of Light Missionary Baptist Church located at 1302 West 74th Street in Chicago, Illinois on March 13, 2005 by the founding pastor, Bishop Charles E. Jones, Sr. A native of the south side of Chicago Englewood neighborhood, he undoubtedly is passionate about proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ, making the Word of God relevant in the lives of believers, and building the Kingdom of God in the congregation and the community in which he serves.

Jasper was born on February 14, 1962 to Jasper Sr. and Ruby Edwards. He is the third son of seven children, a husband to one wife, First Lady Damita Edwards, and father to Jaron, Joshua, Jaden. His educational studies include, a high school diploma from Hyde Park Academy (Chicago), a diploma in Law Enforcement and a HVAC & Electrical diploma from Coyne American Institute. As well as an Associates Degree in Theology from the International College of Excellence.

Since taking the pulpit in 2005, an insurmountable amount of believers have joined in fellowship with the Rose of Light Missionary Baptist Church family, bringing its membership to higher heights and deeper levels. He has instituted programs/ministries such as the Vessels of Praise Dance Ministry, Youth Mentoring & Boot Camp, and Friday Family Night. In addition, he has initiated a Children’s Weekly Worship Service that helps raise children and youth to know, love and serve Christ in their own way.

Pastor Edwards partners monthly with the “Bridge”, a community organization that serves individuals who have been in prison to “bridge back into society” in a healthy way. At the “Bridge”, Jasper joins in leadership as people share their lives with one another through a more informal approach to discipleship, serve together to minister to people around them, and are intentional in reaching out to others by sharing the gospel through relationships. The environment is a more intimate, family-like setting purposed to offer fellowship, meals, study and worship.

An activist for social justice, Jasper joined with other pastors of the Inglewood area in an outreach effort, P.A.V.E (Pastors Against Violence for Everyone). The organization regularly goes “beyond the four walls” and “into the neighborhood” to conduct mission minded events and aid in addressing pertinent life issues. In the future, the organization is looking to recapture property for transitioning homes and expand the outreach to the masses.

He is always working to produce persistent charitable programs that will benefit the young adults within our municipality which is the main reason he founded the “J29 Scholarship Foundation” in 2010. The Fund was established to lessen the burden of financial responsibility to those who show bounds in academic achievement and unveiled determination in succeeding through adverse situations. Consequently, each year monetary scholarships are awarded to students who meet specified criteria. On a yearly basis in conjunction with the foundation’s cause, Pastor Edwards partners with local businesses and schools in the Chicago land area who are excited and eager to see the project succeed.

Though his accolades can be much further expounded upon, Jasper has established himself on being about the “mission” more than what can be said from the “mouth”. He is a beloved and courageous pastor, servant-leader, distinguished visionary, faithful friend, and a highly sought after lecturer and preacher. Jasper, sometimes known among his peers as the “ICE Apostle”, is destined to defy the odds in a “cool” way and push himself and his ministry to achieve excellence beyond the boundary, outside the box, and into a greater place.
